Chester Rows-Upper Bridge Street

Finally did a shoot around the Rows, the shopping centre of Chester. Not somewhere I've really explore at length before. I need to go back and really look in different lighting conditions. Probably when there is less people about. This is the Chester city centre, made up of four streets lined with some medieval, but mostly "tudarbethan" black and white building from the Victorian period.

The shops exist on two levels that are called rows. These have been here since the Medieval period, although over the years they have been gradually enclosed so there are less of them now than there were.

These are pictures of Chester Rows on three streets. At the top is view looking from the west upper row on Upper Bridge Street. The middle image is of Eastgate Street with the East gate clock in the distance and The Cross in the foreground. The bottom image is looking up Watergate Street from the upper row on the south side looking towards the cross and the position that the middle picture was taken from.

PostHeaderIcon Cathedral sculpture

Chester cathedral has a good collection of character carvings and gargoyles on it's southern external walls. This is a picture of a character supporting a niche fairly low down on the wall. If there was once a sculpture in the niche above it has now gone.

PostHeaderIcon Polperro site starts to come to life

Boat and ropeThe new Polperro image site is now gradually being built. Take a look at polperro.ls-eyeworks.com. Images there will find there way to this web site as well.

PostHeaderIcon ScribeFire test

The Thames at OxfordThis is an image taken with my mobile phone. This blog entry is created with Scribefire on my laptop and uploaded to my web site. It's an experiment to see how succesful it will be. Rather than log into my web site and use TinyMCE. We'll see how flexable this is and whether it is any quicker.

PostHeaderIcon Tall Ships

Tall ShipsJust added some more images to the Tall Ships gallery. These were pictures taken in Liverpool in 2008 as the boats for the Tall Ships race congregated there. It was a wonderfully sunny and windy day so plenty of opportunity to exploit the cast shadows and fluttering flags.

PostHeaderIcon A few more things resolved

New Brighton LightOk a few more things resolved. For some reason the whole website became very slow and wasn't loading at all. So I built it and at the same time upgraded to a newer version of the Drupal application. I can now also access images from the gallery and display them as thumbnails or whole images. Hopefully then entries into the blog and onto other pages will allow the creation of content related directly to the gallery and to how it gets populated with new content.

This is an image of the disused ligthouse at New Brighton on the Wirral Peninsular in the North West of the UK. The lamp replaced by the ever present traffic cone. There are a series of lighthouses around the Mersey and Dee estuaries that are simmilar in design. Elsewhere in the gallery are several images of the lighthouse at Talacre on the Welsh shore of the Dee that is of the same design.

The image below is of the Talacre, Point of Ayre lighthouse. Neither lighthouse is still in use. That at Talacre not having been active since 1844. The Talcre light is iscolated from the shore by the beach. Behind it are sand dunes. Nash Point was the site of the last coal mine in North Wales. Closed in 1996.Talacre Light
